Now, Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St-Louis falls victim to the latest post-game interview.
In the past two weeks, Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella has chosen to end his post-game press conference after his team's loss to the Carolina Hurricanes after just 25 seconds, and Patrick Roy has chosen to defy NHL regulations by refusing to speak to the media following a New York Islanders loss to the Florida Panthers.
Martin St. Louis is currently the "victim" of a coach press conference controversy himself. One journalist went too far during the Canadiens' post-game press conference after the team's defeat to the Calgary Flames by questioning Martin St. Louis about his post-loss alcohol consumption.
To his credit, he handled it with a clumsy laugh, but the question generated responses on social media.
This is not the kind of question that belongs in a post-game interview, regardless of whether you think alcohol is a taboo subject or not. What kind of journalistic column is being written with that information?
Knowing more intimate details about the players and staff of the teams we support is nice, but it is not the right move to ask them a question that will obviously be interpreted as inappropriate; journalists need to do better.
Tomorrow night at 7:00 PM, Martin St-Louis' team will return to action live from New Jersey to play the Devils, who are led by Jake Allen and Jonathan Kovacevic.
