Kirill Kaprizov, a star player for the Minnesota Wild, seems prepared to leave his team and join an Original Six team.

In a world where a team's success can be completely changed by NHL free agency, Minnesota Wild player Kirill Kaprizov has sparked speculation about his potential next big move. Under a contract that keeps him with the Wild through 2026 at a $9,000,000 AAV, Kaprizov is said to have his sights set primarily on the Chicago Blackhawks.
At the most recent NHL draft in the Las Vegas Sphere, this intriguing development came to light when the Blackhawks made headlines by selecting elite defenseman Artyom Levshunov. The Blackhawks strengthened their roster in preparation for future success as teams carefully considered their selections, with Beckett Sennecke going third to Anaheim and Cayden Lindstrom fourth to Columbus.
Rumors stated that Kaprizov was keen to sign with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2026, following the expiration of his $9,000,000 AAV contract with the Minnesota Wild, as reported by Mark Lazerus of The Athletic.
It's clear why Chicago is appealing. In addition to strengthening their roster, the Blackhawks' recent wave of high-profile additions, including Teuvo Teravainen, Tyler Bertuzzi, Alec Martinez, and T.J. Brodie, also make them a desirable destination for elite players. Playing beside a generational talent such as Bedard presents Kaprizov with a unique and highly sought-after opportunity that has the potential to significantly improve his playing career.
He would be difficult to replace in Minnesota, but with the cap space created by his departure, the team may be able to sign a top free agent, particularly given the Wild's dismal season that saw them miss the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
It will be interesting to watch Kaprizov's situation. Should things not go according to plan in Minnesota, Kaprizov might consider switching teams.
