Filip Gustavsson played a major role in the Minnesota Wild's significant victory on Tuesday, including the infrequent goalie goal.

Even though the NHL season is only two weeks in, it's safe to assume that there will be a ton of highlights throughout the year because we've already witnessed some amazing plays, intense moments, and some excellent drama. The Minnesota Wild defeated the division rival St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, and Filip Gustavsson's extremely rare goalie goal completed the 4-1 victory. It was yet another highlight of the game.
Gustavsson made a save with 11 seconds remaining and had a 3-1 lead when he saw the ideal opportunity to put the puck on his stick with a flawless shot, which would enable him to score his first goal of the season. After Linus Ullmark the previous season and Tristan Jarry the year before, Gustavsson is only the 11th goalie to score a goal at the NHL level since 2000. This is the third consecutive season that this has happened.
In addition, Gustavsson had a fantastic night in goal, stopping 27 of the 28 shots he faced, which helped the team win the crucial Central Division game and return to 2-0-2 on the season. With the Wild hoping to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Gustavsson has a sub-two GAA on the season, giving up just five goals on 96 shots.
The 26-year-old Swede also appears in the 2024-25 goal column ahead of players like Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid.
After the game, Gustavsson joked that he now wants to be included in power-play meetings moving forward, according to Michael Russo of the Athletic.
Marc-Andre Fleury, the wild backup goalie, is also likely deserving of an honorary assist on the goal. Fleury informed Russo that he instructed Gustavsson to aim for the open cage and called a "quick goalie meeting" during a TV timeout.
The Minnesota Wild defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-1 thanks to the 18th goalie goal in league history. In the history of the Wild franchise, it was also the first goal scored by a goalie.
