Any player can experience stress during the Stanley Cup Finals, but it's safe to say that the pressure and intensity increase to an unanticipated degree when you are the world's best player and the captain of a team facing an 0-2 deficit.
A teaser trailer for the new Amazon series "Faceoff: Inside the NHL" showed Oilers captain Connor McDavid yelling at his teammates following a loss that dropped them to 0-2 in the series. Now, the full clip has been released.
As expected, the video contained a lot more "f-bombs" from the captain, demonstrating his fervor and intensity both on and off the ice. The squad would eventually fall short in spite of their heroic efforts, but they would win three games in a row after that to take the series all the way back to Game 7 in Florida.
We've never really seen this side of Connor McDavid before, but it's probably quite present in the Oilers locker room. For the majority of people, Connor McDavid is a reserved leader on the ice and a subdued personality in the media. This is received poorly by some, but well received by others. Having led this team for many years, McDavid obviously understands how to motivate his players, as evidenced by the way it worked this time.
With a motivated Connor McDavid aiming for his first Cup, the team has added some big pieces this off-season in an attempt to return to the Stanley Cup Finals. It's safe to say that they'll be tough to stop in the Western Conference this year.
