Recently, Team Canada revealed their jersey's for the upcoming 4-Nations Faceoff, and with the excitement building for the hockey tournament that will take place in February of 2025. Given that this is the first time in years we will see all of the best NHL players representing their countries, it could be one of the best events on the NHL calendar this season in a year that will hopefully be full of great games and moments.
While there will be big selection choices for every team ahead of the event, it's Team Canada that have the biggest decisions to make, with so many incredible players vying to represent their home country. One of their biggest choices may revolve around the captaincy, with three club captains (Sidney Crosby - Pittsburgh, Brad Marchand - Bruins and Connor McDavid - Oilers) all expected to be selected for Team Canada, with other leaders like Nathan MacKinnon, John Tavares and Mark Stone potentially on the team as well.
At this point, it can hardly be argued that Connor McDavid is the best player in the world, but when asked about his choice for captaincy, he may it clear that Team Canada legend Sidney Crosby is still the choice.
At 37-years of age, Crosby was involved in one of the biggest moments in hockey history with the golden goal, and still playing at an elite level, he's the choice of not only McDavid but the majority of Canadians as well. Given the respect that Crosby commands in the hockey world, the decision will likely be up to him whether he wants to play or not, and with a team loaded full of superstars, he remains the optimal choice for Team Canada.
