Connor McDavid Blasts His Team After Another Crushing Oilers Loss
Following a loss at the Battle of Alberta, Connor McDavid, the captain of the Edmonton Oilers, is visibly angry with his team as they begin the 2024-25 season 0-3-0.
The Edmonton Oilers were predicted to start this season strong following a strong Stanley Cup Playoffs run the previous season, but they have suffered three straight losses to begin the season. The team's frustration is evident after they lost their third consecutive home game on Sunday, this time to the Calgary Flames, their fiercest rival. Veteran Corey Perry criticized his team following the game.
After the team has only managed three goals in three games, captain Connor McDavid has now taken the same action, pointing out the team's early-season struggles and the reasons they are losing games.
We are getting beat in a lot of battles. We're getting beat in a lot of different ways, lamented Oilers captain Connor McDavid, who had one lonely assist and was on the ice on two key Calgary goals - directly at fault for one of them.
Puck play has been bad all over, McDavid said. Guys fumbling it and not handling passes, (passes) in the air, passes behind guys It's just not good enough in terms of the puck play. When you are not clean with the puck it's tough to get the offence.
Ultimately it hasn't been good enough, McDavid said. Up and down the lineup, myself first and foremost. Everybody could be better and everybody will be better.
The Oilers have struggled everywhere on the ice, giving up 15 goals while only scoring three. Although they had a slow start and improved a season ago, there are indications that this team will struggle greatly this season. With McDavid not playing much and the team appearing worn out, this isn't the best start for the Oilers, and with multiple veterans criticizing the team, things need to change quickly. The Battle of Alberta against the now 3-0-0 Flames wasn't supposed to go this way.
