Despite being one of the greatest players to ever wear a Detroit Red Wings jersey, Pavel Datsyuk has no interest in a new role with the team.
The 2024 Hockey Hall of Fame Class, set for induction in November, is star-studded, with none more prominent than former Detroit Red Wings icon Pavel Datsyuk. His influence on the game remains strong, with fans worldwide still watching his highlight reels. It's clear that Datsyuk understands how fortunate he has been.
«I'm still recognizing I'm there and it's hard to believe,» he said. «Of course, I feel like I'm a lucky boy.»
Although he's excited to return to the United States to accept his induction, Datsyuk has stated that he has no interest in joining the Detroit Red Wings in any hockey capacity. He enjoys his role as a coach with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg in the KHL.
«I miss Detroit but now I have a job, I'm a hockey player development back at home,» Datsyuk explained. He prioritizes spending time with his family, stating, «I want to stay with my family, spend more time at home.»
While the presence of former teammate Steve Yzerman might alter things eventually, don't count on the superstar returning to Detroit in any full-time capacity for now.
