Goalie Jake Oettinger has signed an eight-year contract extension with the Dallas Stars, which will start in 2025-2026 and run through 2032-2023, the team announced today. The average annual value (AAV) of the eight-year contract is $8.25 million, with a total value of $66 million.
"Jake has established himself as one of the elite goaltenders in the NHL,» Nill said. «His unique blend of poise, size, athleticism, and mental toughness has helped our team reach new heights since he's taken over the net. He is an integral part of our core that will allow us to contend for the Stanley Cup this season, but also for many years to come. Off the ice, Jake is a leader in our team's community efforts and is always willing to give his time and resources. I'm pleased that Jake and his wife Kennedi will be part of our family for many years to come.»
Oettinger's current three-year, $12 million contract was originally scheduled to expire in 2025, at which point he would become a restricted free agent.
Oettinger has been among the top 10 goalies who have played in at least 50 regular-season games since the 2020-21 NHL season in terms of wins (116, sixth) and goals-against average (2.49, seventh). During that time, he is tied for 13th in shutouts (11) and tied for 11th in save percentage (.914).
In 196 regular-season games, Oettinger, 25, has a 116-48-23 record, a 2.49 goals-against average, 11 shutouts, and a .914 save percentage. Along with helping the Stars make it to the postseason three times in a row and making it to the Western Conference Final in 2023 and 2024, he has a 23-22 record in 47 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
