While Alex Ovechkin is central to the Washington Capitals' success over the past two decades, Evgeny Kuznetsov's remarkable 11-year stint with the team was crucial, particularly in their memorable Stanley Cup triumph.
However, after leaving for the Hurricanes in 2023/24, it now seems that Kuznetsov is departing from the NHL, as it's been officially confirmed he will immediately sign a four-year deal with SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL.
At 32 years old, Kuznetsov shows he still has plenty to offer after a strong 2023/24 season. However, due to his injury record, no NHL team is willing to offer him a long-term contract. Last season, he scored 8 goals and 24 points in 63 games. Now, he's banking on a return to All-Star form in the KHL over the next four years.
There's still a possibility of an NHL return, considering he'll be 36 when his current deal ends. However, this may mark the end of Evgeny Kuznetsov's stellar NHL career for now.
