Goalie Jeremy Swayman was presented with a massive $64 million contract offer by the Boston Bruins, but he shockingly turned it down.

The Boston Bruins and goaltender Jeremy Swayman are at a standstill when it comes to discussing a new deal. As the preseason winds down and the regular season is within sight, neither side seems to move any closer to a deal.
At first, the Bruins organization was hopeful that a deal could be completed in time for the season to begin. But as the talks have drawn out, their attention has turned to the prospect of signing a deal before the league's December 1st deadline.
Don Sweeney, the general manager and president, gave an update on the current situation during this press conference and discussed his frustrations with the team's overall workflow. President Cam Neely expressed his obvious frustration with Swayman's unsigned status without holding back. Negotiations have become contentious despite the expressed desire for long-term relationships on both sides, raising questions about the nature of the conversations that are taking place behind closed doors.
Neely was shocked that a deal hadn't been completed yet, of course. He said Swayman turned down a $64 million offer, clearly expressing his displeasure with the goalie's position. Neely made it a point to note this number, according to Joe Pohoryles of NHL.com. This is a typically candid revelation that is not often made public during negotiations.
Information about negotiations within the NHL is typically kept secret unless there are insider leaks. It's very uncommon for Neely to discuss the Bruins' $64 million offer, which leaves fans and analysts with plenty of room for conjecture. The general consensus is that the offer is probably an eight-year contract worth $8 million a season, but there's still a crucial element missing: he has no idea why Swayman is waiting.
The Bruins are ultimately annoyed by how drawn out these conversations have been, and Jeremy Swayman is still fixated on this. This impasse in the contract won't be resolved anytime soon as long as both parties continue to stand their ground. The team and supporters are at their wits' end as the season opener draws nearer.
